The Taj Mahal was built at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
Construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen.
