Taj Mahal in India

The Taj Mahal was built at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

 

Construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen.

The Taj Mahal attracts between 3 to 4 million visitors annually, most tourists visiting in the cooler months of October, November and February.

Taj Mahal appears in several listings of Seven Wonders of the modern world.
