Riverboat Cruises are available in Stone Mountain Park located at Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Marina Drive. Ride aboard a 150-passenger riverboat on a 30-minute cruise of the lake. The cruise is available daily, but features a variety of starting times.
If high adventure is in your blood, venture over to the Summit Skyride, also located in the park. This cable car ride provides spectacular views of the surrounding countryside in addition to Stone Mountain. Allow at least 30 minutes for this exciting ride that is offered daily, weather permitting.
Tours of the top of the mountain are also available during favorable seasons for a small fee. Additionally, two hikes, a 5-mile and a 1.3-mile hike, are offered on maintained trails. Three acres of this mountain have been carved into the likenesses of three important men from the Civil War. These figures, illuminated nightly, include General Robert E. Lee, General Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis, the Confederate President.
Zoo Atlanta, situated at 800 Cherokee Avenue, is home to a large reptile collection, a huge exhibit of lowland gorillas, a variety of birds, and numerous other species of animals. Parking is free, picnic sites are available, and the park is open daily with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and December 25.
Six Flags Over Georgia is located west of Atlanta in Austell, featuring over 100 exciting rides, including 10 roller coasters. The amusement park is open daily and is spread out on more than 100 acres. Skull Island features water adventures while Bugs Bunny World is full of fun adventures for the little ones. Musical shows, diving shows, picnic facilities, and kennel accommodations are all part of the fun.
Visitors to Atlanta who enjoy cultural things will want to visit the High Museum of Art or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
