French Nudist Beach at Cap D'Agde
By Anna Lynn Sibal
Cap d’Agde is a popular destination among tourists. That is because in Cap d’Agde is the Village Naturiste - Nudist Beach, a large and fenced-off beach community exclusive to naturists vacationing in France, considered to be the nudist capital of the world.
Beware, however, because the nudist beach is not what most people think when it comes to nudist communities. It is a family-oriented nudist village; you can actually get arrested for performing lewd and nude acts in Cap d’Agde.
Getting to Cap d'Agde is easy. Just fly to any major French city and then take the train to Agde. The most convenient way to get to Agde, however, is through Montpelier, as Montpelier is only a few miles away from Agde.
If you are going to stay for a while at Cap d'Agde, it would be best for you to rent a car. Agde is not friendly to pedestrians in the sense that there is no place there that can be reached just by walking. You can take the bus if you want, but the bus arrives at irregular intervals and can involve a bit of waiting. The most convenient way to move around Agde is by renting a car.
Another thing you should make a note of when you go to the nudist beach in Cap d'Agde is that you need a card to secure your entry into the village. The cost of the card depends on the number of days you shall be staying there plus tax. However, you can come and go as you please before your card expires. It would be best for you to arrange to get this entry card with your travel agent before you get to Cap d’Agde so that you do not have to stand a queue when you get to the gateway to the village.
What can you do at Cap d'Agde?
Cap d'Agde is one of the prettiest beaches in France, and so, swimming and sunbathing are staple activities there. The summer season is naturally the best time to go there. Be prepared, however, to jostle among other naturists, as the population of tourists in Cap d’Agde can go up to 40,000 during the summer season.
The nightlife at Cap d’Agde can veer towards the wilder side, with many bars and nightclubs labeled "For Couples Only." If that type of nightlife is not your scene, feel free to steer away from these joints. There are other places you can go to at Cap d’Agde to enjoy the nightlife.
People staying at the nudist village are required to shed off all their clothing when going to the beach. However, the other establishments in Cap d’Agde are actually clothing optional. Some of the holiday-goers to Cap d’Agde still choose to put some clothes on, especially when it gets cold at night.
While you can shop naked or go to the bank naked, there are some restaurants at Cap d’Agde that require their diners to be dressed before patronizing their establishment. Cap d’Agde may be the nudist capital, but it would not hurt to check out if you can go naked at a place before sauntering in. Being in the know is better than getting embarrassed, even in Cap d’Agde.
A great beach guide
